The short version

What Sydney VMUG is

Sydney VMUG is the local chapter of the VMware User Group — an independent, global, customer-led organisation launched in August 2010 to help technologists get more out of VMware Cloud Foundation and everything that surrounds it.

Globally that is more than 150,000 members across 187 countries, and over 330 local and global events a year. Locally it is a room in Sydney, several times a year, full of engineers, admins and architects comparing notes on what is actually working.

We are volunteers. Nobody is paid, nothing is scripted by a vendor, and the agenda is whatever the community says it needs next.

Who it is for

Anyone running, designing or supporting VMware in and around Sydney. Three hosts or three thousand, consultant or customer, fifteen years in or fifteen weeks. Newcomers are as welcome as the regulars — arguably more so, since they ask the questions everyone else stopped asking.

Where we meet

Usually the VMware Sydney office, occasionally a sponsor venue, always somewhere with reasonable transport and somewhere to get a drink afterwards. The venue for the next one is on the registration page.

What it costs

Nothing. Sponsors cover the venue, the food and the vBeers, and they are named on the night. Registration exists purely so we cater the right numbers.

How it connects to global VMUG

The chapter is local. Everything else — the global events, webcasts, the on-demand library and membership — is run centrally at vmug.com, and none of it is needed to come to a Sydney meet-up.
